2008-06-18 Henry Poole Is Here
Mark recently discovered a contest for unsigned song writers posted by the producer, Mark Pellington, of a new movie due out in August.  The movie is called Henry Poole is Here starring Luke Wilson and Georoge Lopez which is a comedic drama about a disillusioned man who goes hiding in placid suburbia only to discover he cannot escape the forces of hope. Returning to the middleclass neighborhood where he grew up, Henry chooses to live in indulgent isolation. Real life, however, refuses to cooperate with his plans. Nosy neighbors interrupt him with curious visits and prying questions. Then the situation escalates as a stain on Henry's stucco wall is seen to have miraculous powers. His last-ditch hideout becomes a shrine; his backyard turns into an arena for passionate debate about faith and destiny. Seeking anonymous oblivion, cynical Henry Poole instead finds himself right at the center of the human comedy. A modern-day fable, director Mark Pellington's new film investigates the unexpected wonders of the everyday. A faithless man finds hope. A hopeless man finds love. Whether backyard miracles are real or triggered by hope and belief, their personal effects are permanent.

The song has to be called "Henry Poole is Here" and the producer will pick the top 5 songs for the Myspace community to vote on.   The winner will have their song in the movie and be able to do a music video for free!  This is the last week for the contest and Mark and Ron are submitting the song today so stay tuned for more details on how to vote for the song that Mark, Ron, Jay, Jonathan, and Pat put together.  You can hear the song on Mark's Myspace Music at http://www.myspace.com/markjjohnsonmusic.
2008-04-09 Mark will appear on new PBS television show

A new television show called Everyday Edison’s has picked up Mark for one of it's episodes for the 3rd season.   www.everydayedisons.com   This is a show for people who have extraordinary inventions or ideas.   If they decide they want to pick up your invention they will document the development process and the stories of the people who invented them.   Mark heard on the radio that they were having casting calls at the Dallas Convention Center and decided to go the next day.   After working all night building cabinets until about 4:00am he got up at 10:00am, pulled off an embedded cabinet door from his own kitchen and headed to the convention center.

Mark has developed a process for blasting any picture you can imagine in wood, glass, or tile.  He can even make one continuous picture going from a countertop to a cabinet down to the tile on the floor if you wish.   You can check out some of his amazing work at
www.creationcabinets.com

He spent the entire day at the convention center making it through several rounds of interviews.  The day started out with about 2000 people and by this point it had been narrowed down to about 50.  Mark was called into a room to do a 2 minute taped interview in front of 10 panelists of judges from Home Depot, Bed Bath and Beyond, QVC, and Neiman Marcus to name a few.  After telling the judges about his product and walking the cabinet door around to each of them for a better look they were very impressed.  He was told he had 10 seconds left at the same time one of the panelists asked him if he could share how this process is done.  Mark being the sales man he is said “Sure I would love to, but oh look at that I’m out of time”.   The panelists erupted in laughter and gave him a round of applause.

After waiting in the green room for about 15 minutes his number, 244, appeared on the screen that meant he made it to the next level.  Now he would be going in front of 4 judges with 10 minutes to impress and convince them that his product was worth spending money on to develop.  He was told by other staff members of the show that if he made it past this round it would be like getting the golden ticket on American Idol.   Mark did his pitch in front of the judges and several T.V. cameras.  To make it beyond this point 2 of the 4 judges had to say yes.  The first judge was a patent lawyer and he could not understand how the process worked (because Mark wasn’t telling anyone) or how it could be done on a large scale quickly so he said no.  Mark came back with a great example of a large company wanting to put their logo on a plaque to give to all of the employees.  He explained that the cabinet door he brought for an example only took him 4 minutes to complete.  The next judge was a woman who did several infomercials and she said definitely yes because she could sell it like crazy on QVC.  The third judge also said no because he did not know the process.  At this point Mark said he could feel his heart beating in his neck.  The decision for Mark to move on all came down to the final judge.  The judge said “You’ve been here all day and I am so intrigued that I am going to say yes with the stipulation that you tell us how the process is done.”  Mark said you got it and they handed him the Everyday Edison’s Poker Chip which was his ticket to move forward.

At this point Mark is working with the show to get them some information on how the process works.  If they decide to pick him up for the entire show the filming will start on July 31st.    Stay tuned for more details.
